I’m obsessed with the Seven Magic Mountains in Vegas and if you haven’t gone, you need to put it on your list! Better yet, if you are a Vegas local, this is a great activity that’s FREE.

Seven Magic Mountains is one of those places that is truly unexpected in Las Vegas. Vegas is synonymous with glitz and glam. But this, on the other hand, is anything but! And while this post is not sponsored, it does contain affiliate links. If you use these links to buy something, I may earn a commission. So let’s get the basics out of the way …

What is it exactly?

Simply put, Seven Magic Mountains is an art installation. The work was done by a Swiss artist named Ugo Rondinone and opened in 2016. The “mountains” are big, colorful neon boulders that have been placed on top of each other and stand over 30-feet tall.

Think of it as pop art colliding with land art. These bright, bold pillars are captivating against the desert landscape so if you’re trying to find some fresh IG or YouTube content, this is your place.

How far is it from the Strip?

The art installation is located give-or-take 20 miles south of the strip, so no excuse to not check it out. If you are staying at a resort towards the south end of the strip (my favorite is hotels are Delano), the drive is about 20 mins.

If you are staying on the north side of the strip (like the new Resorts World, Wynn or Virgin Hotel) the drive is about 30 mins. It’s a bit further if you are coming from Downtown Vegas, like the Circa. I book all of my hotels through hotels.com because I find they have the most competitive prices for Vegas, offer a great Rewards program and frequently have sales!

How can I get there?

You can drive or catch an Uber/Lyft. Private tours are also offered that include private transportation to and from your hotel. You can check out also rental cars and limos if you want to be fancy fancy.

Does it cost money?

Believe it or not, this is completely FREE! That’s damn near shocking these days. However, if you don’t want to hassle with planning this trip, I would recommend checking out this half day Private Tour which also stops at the Las Vegas Welcome Sign for photo opps.

How long do I spend there?

This is completely up to you. While I was there, I saw people get out of their car, grab a few photos and they were on their way. It really just depends. For me, I wanted to spend a little more time there. Shit… I probably spent about an hour there in total, taking photos/videos and soaking it all up haha. I would allot about 2 hours total, with drive time and the experience. Private Tours can range from 2.5-3 hours.

Is it still available to see?

HELL YES! Seven Magic Mountains is open and encourages everyone to practice social distancing when visiting. I am super jealous for anyone that lives locally that can experience this art installation without the tourist crowds right now!

Any other tips?

Keep in mind the time of year you want to visit. I visited in July…the fuckin middle of summer.. and remember, Vegas is in the desert. It gets hot. And I’m not talking.. 85 degrees and ideal pool weather. I am talking 120 degrees and makeup is basically dripping off your face. My waterproof mascara wasn’t holding up to save my life!

Also – Bring water. Bring a sun hat. And definitely bring sunglasses. Tons of cheap options on Amazon. All things you can also use while sipping cocktails poolside afterwards 🙂
