Luna Liquida is a quaint Boutique Hotel in El Centro, within walking distance to the Malecón and many bars and restaurants. Bold yellow design accents throughout the hotel remind you that you’re in Mexico. While it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in walkability & value. You’ll get plenty of steps on your fitness tracker or Apple Watch staying here. The room rates are much more affordable compared to other boutique hotels in the area. This is a true no-thrills, no fuss hotel.

Check-in

Check-in was a breeze and very easy. The front desk receptionist allowed us to check-in a few hours early and showed us to our room. You won’t find bellhops here, so expect to carry your luggage up a few sets of chairs. After check-in, we really didn’t see any other staff members on site. In fact, even when we wanted to check-out, there was no receptionist. We just left. (Totally fine because we pre-paid for our stay)

The Room: Sol 1

I have stayed in the room “Sol 1” twice over the years and the views are beautiful. On a sunny day, you’ll see the beautiful Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The room features a fireplace and two small balconies (one with ocean views, the other with views of the city).

The air-conditioning is just okay (probably needs to be serviced, but it’s manageable). There is a small lounge table and chairs too. In the closet, you’ll find a safe and the instructions to operate it.

The bathroom has two sinks, a very large step-in rainshower and comes with basic toiletries like Shampoo and Body Wash.

You can watch the full room tour video on my Instagram page, so check it out!

Food & Drinks

Luna Liquida does not have a restaurant on-site. You are really close to a lot of great restaurants though in El Centro. You can check out my Puerto Vallarta Travel Guide and almost all of the restaurant I recommend are within walking distance to Luna Liquida.

The Pool

Luna Liquida Puerto Vallarta boutiqueorbusted.com

Luna Liquida has a small rooftop infinity pool with views of the ocean and the surrounding city. The pool is unheated, but during summer, this isn’t a problem because it can get hot and humid in PV. The pool feels refreshing and you’ll appreciate the cooler pool temps.

One downside is the “jacuzzi.” I’m not sure you can even call it that? It’s attached to the pool, but there is no separation, so it shares the same water as the pool… meaning.. cold water. You can turn the jets on in the “jacuzzi,” but it won’t get hot. I feel like it’s a pretty big bummer since most of the rooms do not have a jacuzzi.

Check out the video below…

The rooftop also has a few chaise lounges and a palapa-covered terrace. You’ll find a large cooler on the rooftop, because this place is BYOB & BYO-ice. There is no waiter or service on the rooftop. You are on your own! Wifi is a bit spotty on the rooftop too.

Is Luna Liquida Boutique or Busted?

Luna Liquida is Basic

Calling this a hotel is a bit of stretch in my opinion because there is virtually no amenities. No restaurant on site, no gym or spa. You have to bring your own drinks & ice to the pool. There is no wait staff or service. Seems more like an AirBnb – where you bring a lot of what you need.

For budget travelers that still want to be close to all the action of downtown Puerto Vallarta, Luna Liquida is a good option to lay your head at night. It’s safe and highly walkable.

For anyone else that wants a true “hotel” experience, you may be disappointed.
